Dr Kit S. Ng
Director / Psychologist & Marriage and Family Therapist
Kit S. Ng, PhD, spent the last 25 years in the United States before returning to Singapore to practice psychology. He brings with him more than 20 years of clinical experience in relationship therapy, addiction disorders, child psychology, couple therapy, family therapy, individual psychotherapy and consultation with different companies on employee issues. In the last decade, he served in two universities as Professor in Psychology and Family Therapy. He directed two graduate programs in Psychology at Kean University in New Jersey, while running his private practice which also covered the New York City area.
Dr Ng obtained his B.Sc in Psychology (Montevello, USA), M.Ed in Counselling/Psychology (UNT, USA) and PhD in Family Therapy (TWU, USA). He completed his doctoral internship at the renowned Southwest Family Institute in Dallas, Texas under the supervision of Robert Beaver, MD., a nationally known psychiatrist, writer and researcher in family systems theory. Dr Ng holds three different clinical licenses and two advanced designations as Approved Clinical Supervisor from Florida and Texas. He is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA),Singapore Psychological Society (SPS), The Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). He is the only PhD holder in Singapore to have an advanced clinical designation as an Approved Supervisor with The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. His advanced clinical training includes working with sex addicts with Dr Patrick Carnes (formerly from the Halzelden Treatment Center), sex therapy training with Dr Ruth Westheimer, training on co-dependent systems with Pia Melody and John Bradshaw, training on couples dealing with infidelity issues with Dr Janis Spring, as well as training in hypnosis with the Central Pennsylvania Psychiatric Associates.
Dr Ng has authored two books: Counselling Asian Families from a Systems Perspective (1998) and Global Perspectives in Family Therapy (2003), published more than a dozen professional papers, and conducted over 200 presentations and workshops to psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, family therapists, social workers, physicians, counsellors and educators. The latest two presentations were made at The 28th International Congress of Psychology in Beijing in August, 2004. In that same year, he was honored with The Richard A. Schere Applied Clinical Research Award by the New Jersey Psychology Association. In 2005, he was voted into the "Contemporary Who's Who of Professionals", a distinguished recognition for professionals who have accomplished advanced work in their discipline. In March 2010, he co-presented on Sex Addiction Treatment at the Asia Pacific Behavioural and Addiction Medicine,Singapore.
