Dr Howells obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Salomons (South West Thames Clinical Psychology Training Program – Open University) England, UK. UK's program of training for Clinical Psychologists is one of the most competitive and extensive trainings in the world. Following her professional training Dr Howells undertook a two-year postgraduate diploma in 'Systemic Practice with Families and Couples' from the Institute of Family Therapy, London UK, graduating with distinction.
Kate has worked clinically with adults with a range of mental health problems both acute and chronic. She has worked with adolescents and their families both inpatient and outpatient. She has also worked extensively with people with intellectual disabilities who also have mental and physical health problems. Alongside this she has considerable experience in the provision of individual and group supervision as well as supervision and consultation to staff teams in the medical, welfare and school sectors.
Since arriving in Singapore three and half years ago Kate has worked for Raffles Hospital Counselling Service and most recently for James Cook University Singapore (JCUS). At JCUS she was pivotal to the development of their postgraduate training programs in Clinical Psychology. These are the first of their kind in Singapore and the first to receive accreditation.
Dr Howells is a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) with a current practice certificate. She is also a member of the British Association of Family Therapy and the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS). She is currently a member of the SPS Council and chair of the Singapore Register of Psychologists.
